Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, TN, is the world’s first distillery dedicated to honoring Nathan “Nearest” Green, the godfather of Tennessee Whiskey. Nicknamed “Malt Disney World” and named a “true whiskey destination” by Travel + Leisure, this 323-acre property offers an immersive experience for whiskey enthusiasts, history lovers, and families alike. The distillery celebrates the heritage of Tennessee through its tribute to three state icons—Tennessee Whiskey, Tennessee walking horses, and Tennessee music. We spent my husband’s 30th birthday doing a tour and tasting with a large party and everyone had a great time! Ashley was extremely helpful in arranging and scheduling the tour for everyone. Our tour guide, Karen, was very knowledgeable and seemed to have a fun time sharing that knowledge with all of us. We had several infants and toddlers with our party and she never missed a beat, even when they were loud and potentially distracting. Beautiful place with tasty whiskey!

I highly recommend a trip to the Uncle Nearest Distillery tour when you go to Tennessee. They do the main, large-scale distilling in Lynchburg and I don't think you can see it. This ISN'T a huge factory tour. However, this site will show you the smaller onsite bottling process. They do sell you liquor that they made onsite which is smaller batched. I was about an hour or so away in Nashville and it was worth the trip. Xavier knew so much about the entire whiskey making process and the family history. It was so good to hear how Jack Daniels got his start with the Greene family and these families remaining close through the centuries. I didn't even drink but thoroughly enjoyed all the info, the store and restaurant. It was truly a wonderful experience. Just go and check it out for yourself.
